Vir jare was ek bang om brood te bak. Dit was vir my iets wat net die Voortrekkers kon doen en wat my huisvrou ego sou laat plat val. Toe nooi n vriendin my eendag saam na Jeff se kursus. En net daar in n klipstoor op ‘n koue wintersoggnend, oorkom ek nie net my vrees vir brood nie maar word brood een van my beste vriende.
Jeff maak dit ongekompliseerd, hy laat jou voel soos die Voortekker vrou wat die nasie met haar brood gaan voed.
Nou gaan daar nie n week verby wat ek nie brood bak nie, dis my siels-tyd. Ek dink diep dinge en droom groot drome. Ek weet elke brood wat uit my oond kom het ietsie van my in wat ek vir iemand anders kan gee. Al is dit vir my gesin op ‘n Sondag aand om die kombuistafel voor elkeen in sy rigting vir die week verkeer.
Ek wens elke mens hierdie kursus toe. Dit ontspan, ontglip, ontsnap, neem weg en maak vol.

"Decent flour, water, salt, yeast .... and patience. That is all it takes.
I always loved bread, but thought that bread didn't love me. Like so many others, I believed that I was gluten intolerant. In 2017 I did the Basic Country Loaf course (about 4 - 5 hours) with Jeff and have never bought mass produced or gluten free bread again. I have also never had the horrid side effects of eating shop bread again.
The training is hands-on and great fun. The reasons why very little yeast is used and giving the dough time to do it's own thing, comes to life right before your eyes. Tasting the end product is pure joy.
The bread freezes beautifully and involves no kneading, so with almost no effort you can have the best bread available at all times."

"Ek het blindelings my vriend se raad gevolg: "As jy in Suid-Afrika will oorleef, móét jy kan brood bak!" My enigste kennis oor brood, was my ouma se ouvroustories oor brooddeeg (wat Jeff álles verkeerd bewys het).
Die eerste dag in Jeff se pragtige stoor, het my lewe verander! Nooit het ek besef dis eintlik só maklik en terapeuties om brood te bak nie. Sedertien hou winkelbrood geen meer bekoring vir my in nie.
Jeff se manier van doen, lewenskennis, broodkennis, humorsin, geduld en rojale manier van onthaal, maak élke kursus ñ onvergeetlike ervaring.
Jeff en Sue se passie vir die lewe en Wakkerstroom, is aansteeklik. Só het ons ñ wonderlike bestemming op ons voorstoep ontdek."

Wat 'n fantastiese tyd by Jeff Lawrence het ek al gehad. Ek het reeds die baguette, pizza, pita kurses gedoen en onlangs die hot cross buns.
Jeff bied dit baie professioneel aan en stappe is maklik om te volg en te bemeester.
Ons het met dit alles saam 'n heerlike middagete met wyn en nagereg geniet.
Die laaste kurses het ons sommer oorgeslaap in Jeff se cottage en Wakkerstroom se winkeltjies die volgende dag gesien.
Wat 'n wonderlike naweek was dit nie!
Ek kan die brood kurses aanbeveel en weet Jeff gaan jou hele perspektief oor brood verander. 10/10 vir die kurses!

“What a great idea for my Mother’s birthday gift! It was a cold, icy day in Wakkerstroom. We arrived at Jeff's cosy barn - ovens on, flour, water and yeast ready and waiting for us.
Jeff has a comprehensive bread baking booklet for you to follow or just listen to him throughout the day (take it home to carry on the experience). We did the shaping course, which was a basic dough, mixed and left to rise a few times.
While waiting for the bread to finish its last rising, we were presented with a delicious lunch of Tandoori chicken, couscous and roasted veg(and a sneaky glass of wine). Laughing and enjoying the atmosphere, we started shaping, from Portuguese, to plaited and oval loaves. We looked like professionals!
